APHA in association with the Federation of Agrochemical Retailer Merchants (FARM) established an independent company
called BASIS in 1993 to ensure that plant protection and animal health products are stored and used correctly. In 2010
BASIS rebranded its name to IASIS Ltd (Irish Agricultural Supply Industry Standards). IASIS is an approved education
service provider under FETAC (now QQI).
IASIS is a QQI (Quality and Qualification of Ireland) registered service provider. We provide accredited
training in the plant protection, animal health and pest control business areas, up to QQI Level 6,
for ‘distributors’ of plant protection, animal health products and pest control products.
For plant protection products

We maintain a register of persons who participate in a programme of Continuous Professional
Education (CPE) for pesticide advisors and distributors to enable them
- to maintain DAFM registration
- in the case of pesticide advisors, to provide advice on selection and use of plant protection products
- in the case of distributors to safely store and handle plant protection products

We provide guidance and advice to members in relation to the building and modification of the
storage, sales and display facilities and on how stores, sales and display areas should be managed
and operated in accordance with best practice
For rodent pest management technicians
- In association with the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use Ireland (CRRU Ireland) we provide
‘Wildlife Aware’ training for rodent pest management technicians
- We maintain a register of persons who have been accredited as ‘Wildlife Aware’ rodent pest management
technicians and who comply with the IASIS Continuous Professional Education (CPE) Scheme for IASIS
accredited ‘Wildlife Aware’ rodent pest management technicians”
